What is Encaustic?
Encaustic is a beeswax and resin based “paint” that is kept in a molten state on a heated palette. It is applied to a surface and reheated to fuse the paint into a uniform finish. The word encaustic comes from the Greek word enkaustikos meaning to “burn into”, referring to the process of fusing the paint. Encaustic has an ancient history, but it has re-emerged as a contemporary art form in the past few decades.
